Movie Monday: “THE FOUNDER” (2016)

“I want to watch something. I think I deserve to watch something today.”

So I opened my beloved movie site and scrolled and filtered and scrolled and then they were. My 3 options. But at the end I went with this one and I am glad I did.

WARNING!
This movie makes you crave a good’ol hamburger and/or cheese burger from McDonald’s.

I’m serious, you do start craving at one point for a burger. Having a McDonald’s burger and fries or other good junk food from McDonald’s next to you may make you more emotionally attached to the film.

But you also don’t need that for attachment, because you get attached anyway.

The story and the idea is quite good, I still had thoughts like “but why should I want to watch how McDonald’s started?”, it is actually pretty interesting and I didn’t know I could get so into this story. For example – I am ALWAYS going to be MAD AT RAY! Why? Well, you can watch and see, and yet I am not that horrible so I will say – because Ray took the McDonald’s away from the brothers Mac and Dick McDonalds (no worries, their real names are Maurice and Richard). And the brothers never got anything to do with McDonald’s ever again, which is so sad.
The brothers are the founders of the original/McDonald’s #1 in San Bernardino, CA and the inventors or the  “Speedy service system” that we now know as “fast food”.

You can see how much work and history research has been put in to this film. So neat and accurate and precise, the environment and the sets and all the colors are specifically sampled to match the time period, also camera work looks like it’s done by an old camera, like it was done in the 20th century (maybe not all the time, but I felt it at some scenes).
The actors do a great job as well and as always. Michael sells it so well, Nick and John are great as well. They all have worked hard and you can see the result in the film.

IMDB rating: 7,2/10 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 7/10 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
MY RATING: 7,9/10 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

At the beginning of the film you start to feel for Ray and how it’s just not going well for him, then you feel happy for him and for the brothers as they are going to have the franchisee, but then.. at least I.. I started to hate Ray because of his actions. But at the same time, if it wasn’t for Ray then we wouldn’t have the chance to have a good’ol hamburger or BigMac.

Just like many more historical and biographical films, this is worth watching as well. It really makes you rethink it and now whenever I pass McDonald’s I think of the brothers and how it all started. They truly did a hard yet wonderful job making this film.
